Summer School 2010
CIC offers a range of general English language and English for Academic Purposes courses, in addition to a Pre Business Masters Programme aimed specifically at international students from around the world. Each course lasts for a specific number of weeks, and provides students with the opportunity to develop their English language and academic English skills and, where appropriate, to gain an introduction to specific academic subjects in preparation for more advanced level study in the future. Students are guaranteed an experience which is both academically rewarding and enjoyable in one of the world’s greatest cities.

English Language and Culture

This 4 week course will provide those students who have only recently begun studying English with the opportunity to practise language skills in a range of everyday situations. Using a range of learning materials, students will develop communicative skills as well as extending vocabulary and grammar. A range of cultural visits and social events will enable students to develop confidence in using their English skills, whilst also gaining an insight into all that London has to offer.

With options to study for 4 or 6 weeks, this course focuses on helping students to develop the skills in academic English necessary for successful study at either undergraduate or postgraduate level at university. With the help of highly qualified and experienced English staff, skills focused classes enable students to identify personal targets and to improve listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Students have the option to prepare and register for an IELTS examination if they wish.

English for Scientific Studies

This 4 week course has been designed specifically for those students who need to develop an understanding of scientific concepts and technical vocabulary in English before progressing to the study of science based courses in English. Students study two subjects selected from physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics and are introduced to the key concepts and subject specific vocabulary necessary with which to progress to either an A-Level or university foundation programme.

Pre Business Masters Programme

This six week course has been designed for those international students who have graduated with an undergraduate degree from a recognised university and who wish to embark upon an MBA or postgraduate Masters degree programme in a business related discipline. The course provides an introduction to specific business disciplines including Finance and Accounting, Economics, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour and Operations Management, in addition to classes aimed at helping students to improve their level of fluency in English.
A complimentary Social Programme will assist students in gaining a deeper cultural understanding of life in the UK in preparation for life as a postgraduate student.
